Free Alaska Solitaire Online
Alaska is a close cousin of Yukon with one twist: you build by suit, and you can build either up or down. All 52 cards are on the table, there is no stock, and you can move any face-up card together with every card on top of it. Solitaire Play offers Alaska in your browser for free, with Hint, Undo and a daily challenge, and no download or sign-up.
Official Rules & Scoring
The goal is to build the four foundations up from Ace to King in each suit. All 52 cards are dealt to seven columns and there is no stock.
- Layout: the first column has one face-up card. Every other column has some face-down cards (one more in each column to the right, up to six) with five face-up cards on top.
- Building: on the table, put a card on another card of the same suit that is exactly one rank higher or one rank lower. A 7 of hearts can go on the 6 or the 8 of hearts. Ace and King are not neighbours here.
- Moving: move any face-up card, together with all the cards on top of it, onto a card it fits on. The cards you move do not have to be in sequence; only the card you pick up has to fit the destination.
- Empty columns: only a King (with the cards on it) can go into an empty column.
- Foundations: build each suit up from Ace to King. The top card of a foundation can also be moved back to a column if you need it.
- Turning cards: a face-down card turns face up as soon as it is uncovered.
- Winning: you win when all 52 cards are on the foundations. Once every column is face up and in descending order, the rest is collected for you.
Strategy & Tips
- Uncover face-down cards first. each flipped card adds options, so prefer moves that turn one over.
- Think in suits. a card can join two different neighbours of its suit, so before you move, check which of the two links is still needed.
- Aim for an empty column. an empty column takes a King and its stack, and it is the most useful tool for rearranging.
- Do not rush cards to the foundations. a low card can be the link another card needs; move it back if you misjudge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every Alaska deal be won?
Yes. New games and the daily challenge only use deals that our solver has proved winnable (it found a full winning line within its search limit, and the line was replayed move by move). In our screening, about 72% of the random Alaska deals passed, and only those are kept. Winnable does not mean easy: the solver sees every face-down card, and you do not.
What is the difference between Alaska and Yukon?
The deal is identical. In Yukon you build down in alternating colours; in Alaska you build up or down in the same suit. Both let you move any face-up card with the cards on it.
Can I take cards back from the foundations?
Yes. Drag the top card of a foundation back to a column, or tap it. It still has to fit the card it lands on.
Where are the other solitaire games?
Klondike is on the home page, and Yukon, FreeCell, Spider, Pyramid and Golf have their own pages.
