Free Double Klondike Solitaire Online
Double Klondike is Klondike played with two decks: nine columns, eight foundations and 104 cards to put away. Solitaire Play offers it in your browser for free, in Turn 1 or Turn 3, with Hint, Undo and a daily challenge, and no download or sign-up.
Official Rules & Scoring
The goal is to move all 104 cards to the eight foundation piles. Nine columns are dealt from left to right: the first has 1 card, the second 2, and so on up to 9 in the last column. Only the bottom card of each column is face up. The other 59 cards form the stock.
- Foundations: there are eight, two for each suit. Each one starts with an Ace and builds up in the same suit from Ace to King. The two decks give you two copies of every card, so both piles of a suit are used.
- Columns: build down in alternating colors, for example a black 6 on a red 7. You can move a face-up run of cards together; there is no limit on its length. When a move uncovers a face-down card, it turns face up on its own.
- Empty columns: only a King, or a run that starts with a King, can be moved into an empty column.
- Stock: tap the stock to turn one card (Turn 1) or three cards (Turn 3) onto the waste. Only the top waste card can be played. When the stock is empty, tap it again to turn the waste back over; you can do this as many times as you like.
- Back from the foundation: the top card of a foundation can be moved back to a column if that helps.
- Winning: you win when all 104 cards are on the foundations. Your time and moves go into your statistics.
Strategy & Tips
- Uncover face-down cards first. The nine columns hide 36 face-down cards. A move that turns one over is usually worth more than any other move.
- Use the two copies. Two cards of the same suit and rank are in play, so you can often choose which one to use; pick the one that frees more cards.
- Plan for Turn 3. In Turn 3 only the top of each group of three is reachable, so decide which cards you want before you go through the stock again.
- Do not rush cards to the foundations. A low card can stay in a column when it holds a run that keeps an option open; the move back from the foundation is there when you need it.
- Save empty columns for Kings. An empty column only takes a King, so clear one when a King is ready to move in.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every Double Klondike deal be won?
Not every random deal can be won, so our new games and the daily challenge only use deals that our solver has proved winnable. In our screening of 4,000 random deals per mode, the solver found a full winning line within its search limit for about 87% of Turn 1 deals and about 84% of Turn 3 deals, and the line was replayed move by move. Only those deals are used. The percentages are a lower bound, because a solver with a limited search can miss lines. Winnable does not mean easy: the solver sees every hidden card, and you do not.
How many times can I go through the stock?
As many times as you like. When the stock is empty, tap it to turn the waste over and start again, in both Turn 1 and Turn 3.
What is the difference from normal Klondike?
Double Klondike uses two decks (104 cards) instead of one. There are nine columns instead of seven and eight foundations instead of four. The rules for building, moving runs and filling empty columns are the same as in Klondike.
Where are the other solitaire games?
Klondike is on the home page, and FreeCell, Spider, Pyramid, TriPeaks, Golf and Yukon have their own pages.
